A bipartisan coalition of mayors nationwide focused on combating illegal guns has not won the support of Aurora Mayor Steve Hogan, though several of his counterparts in cities large and small across Colorado have signed on in support of the effort.
Mayors Against Illegal Guns was created six years ago by New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg — a staunch proponent of tougher gun laws — and Boston Mayor Thomas Menino.
Composed mostly of Democratic mayors, the group says its mission is to keep criminals from illegally possessing guns and using them. The mayors say they are also in favor of the Second Amendment rights of those who lawfully possess guns.
